Experiencing the wonder of the Blue Mountains by horseback is unique and takes visitors to places not frequented by many on foot. The Megalong Valley is a must-see part of the mountains with breathtaking cliff lines and vistas. There are a number of places providing horse-riding experiences to suit your level of riding experience (or lack thereof!).
A one-hour drive from Bilpin Springs Lodge, make a trip to the Megalong Valley for a day trip. Stop in Blackheath village for a stroll and light brunch at one of the many café’s before making your descent into the Megalong Valley. Afternoon tea at one of the many cafés in Katoomba and a visit to the Three Sisters would make a day complete before the drive home, either to cosy Bilpin or the big smoke.

Centennial Glen Stables has a variety of horse riding experiences from short introductions, to full day affairs.
Megalong Valley Ride.
A ride approximately 4 – 5 hours in duration, depending on riding experience, which leaves Centennial Glen Stables and winds through the Kanimbla Valley, stopping at the Megalong Valley Tearooms for lunch. Lunch not included in the fee. Bring a picnic or buy lunch at the adjoining Megalong Valley Tearooms. Post lunch, riders return through bushland, dirt tracks and farmland to the stables.
All Day Horsemanship and Riding Experience.
For children as well as adults. You are guided to harness, groom, and ride your own horse for the day. A full day of activities includes sulky driving, horse riding and even cracking a stock whip.
Sulky Rides and Sulky Driving.
After some instruction, you are the one with the reins. Prices are per sulky, and times range from 1hr – 2 hr rides. Picnics can be taken along, and there are opportunities to photograph the surrounding landscape and wildlife more easily than from horseback.

Euroka Homestead offer horse riding with experienced riders that guide beginners on a horse from the homestead, or your own horse.
Offering options from 1, 1 ½ and 2 hour guided rides along the six-foot track in the Megalong Valley, riders have the option of a gentle ride along the creek, or a ‘Cellar Door’ rides experience. Riding from the stables to the Dry Estate cellar door for cheese platters and wine tasting, this may be a fun option for combining a number of joys.

Megalong Australian Heritage Centre offers a diverse range of horse riding options from 1 hour escorted trail rides, to all day rides along the Cox’s River or Extravagant Picnics and Girls ‘Glamping’ Getaways.
Based in the Megalong Valley, Megalong Australian Heritage Centre has a package that suits many tastes and riding experience. The ‘Unique Wilderness Adventure in a Glass’ boasts a leisurely ride through the valley before stopping for a picnic lunch with a wine and food tasting, sampling the produce and wines from producers and vineyards within 100 miles of the Blue Mountains.
For those with smaller people, the One Hour Wilderness Ride with horses for all levels of skill, passes by the escarpment, and has the potential for viewing Kangaroos and other wildlife. See their website for more details.
